Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Thomas Dulorme Fight Preview
On Saturday, April 27th, undefeated super welterweight challenger Vergil Ortiz Jr. will make his comeback against gatekeeper Thomas Dulorme. The fight will be the co-main event of Rances Barthelemeny versus Jose Ramirez. Continue to follow more articles like this to read more boxing analysis.
Vergil Ortiz Jr Analysis: Unbeaten in 20 fights
Although Ortiz Jr. (20-0, 20 KOs) boasts an impeccable record, illness and injuries have hindered him recently. The 26-year-old appeared to be well on his way after stopping Maurice Hooker in the 7th round in March 2021 and Egidijus Kavaliauskas in the 8th round five months later. After his fight with Michael McKinson was postponed, the two fighters faced off in August 2022, with the Texan emerging victorious via 9th-round stoppage. That led to a promotion from welterweight, and in January, he defeated Fredrick Lawson in just one round during his super welterweight debut. Ortiz can afford to make a mistake here because a significant fight against former WBO world champion Tim Tszyu was recently agreed upon on a big show in Los Angeles this August.
Thomas Dulorme Analysis: His last fight was 2 years ago
Given that Dulorme (26-6-1, 17 KOs) has only won once in his last 4 fights, Tszyu would be wise to use the Puerto Rican as a tune-up opponent. Dulorme, a former contender for the world title, has struggled ever since being stopped in 6 by Terence Crawford in April 2015. A streak of three straight losses began with a points setback to Jamal James in 2020. The 34-year-old lost a decision to Eimantas Stanionis in 2021, and Jaron “Boots” Ennis stopped him in the first round of the competition. He made a comeback to defeat Abrahan Peralta in 3 in July 2022, but he hasn’t been spotted since.
