Vasiliy Lomachenko Analysis: He’s a strong fighter with very good footwork
Since making his professional boxing debut in 2013, Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) has been driven to win all four major titles and establish himself as the unchallenged champion. The Ukrainian superstar defeated Teofimo Lopez, the IBF lightweight champion at the time, in October 2022 after winning the WBC, WBO, and WBA lightweight titles. Lopez won the bout by unanimous decision. Lomachenko started his rise at lightweight in 2018 by defeating Jorge Linares, winning the Ring and WBA belts in the process. The 36-year-old lefty recovered nicely after his loss to Lopez, but he just suffered a close points loss against Haney.

By split decision, Lopez lost the unified belts to George Kambosos Jr. (21-2, 10 KOs) in November 2021. The Sydney native faced Haney again for the undisputed title in June and October of the following year. He lost both, with the second one being by UD. He remained in contention after an eventful points victory over Maxi Hughes in July 2023, which granted the Australian this chance to face Lomachenko.
