On Sunday, both Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg will try to get back on track following recent shaky performances, making for intriguing Bundesliga action.
Eintracht Frankfurt has had a difficult start to the season, winning only one of their first five games. Although they have yet to lose this season in the Bundesliga, the German team has drawn their last three games. A win this weekend, however, would put them in position to qualify for the Champions League.
Over the course of the last two years, Frankfurt has been tough to beat, as seen by their seven-game win streak. Only Dortmund in the German league is presently undefeated. In the eleven months between December 2020 and February 2021, Frankfurt last saw a winning streak of this magnitude. Furthermore, in their last 12 home Bundesliga games, the hosts have yet to taste defeat.
Just behind Frankfurt in the Bundesliga table, Freiburg will need to get back on track this weekend if they want any chance of advancing. However, they have gotten off to a great start this year, with back-to-back weekend victories.
This is the second time since the beginning of last season that Freiburg has lost consecutive matches in this tournament. In the Bundesliga, though, they haven’t lost three in a row since November of 2021. However, they have conceded nine goals in their last two games, which is a red flag for their defense. That’s the same number of goals they allowed in their previous nine games put together.
In their last 38 meetings in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt has amassed 56 points against Freiburg. Only against Werder Bremen have Frankfurt earned more points in the league since the visitors’ promotion in 1993. That’s an intriguing pattern that favors a victory for the home team this coming Saturday.
It might be tough to look past Frankfurt’s impressive home record this weekend. Seven of their last 15 games at Deutsche Bank Park have ended in victories. So, it’s possible that on Sunday, Freiburg could experience its first three-game losing streak in the Bundesliga since November of 2021.
