Bayer Leverkusen, like Gladbach, started the season with a rout of lower-league competition in the DFB-Pokal, defeating Teutonia Ottensen 8-0 while holding a 67% possession advantage and taking 22 shots. With goals from Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah, and Florian Wirtz, Die Werkself followed up that success with a win in the opening weekend of the Bundesliga season, defeating RB Leipzig by a score of 3-2.
When you consider that two weeks ago, Leipzig defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in the DFL-Supercup, many predicted that they would have a strong start to the season in the Bundesliga.
