Game Preview

Real Madrid, fresh off a 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid in the derby on Sunday, will host Las Palmas at the Bernabeu on Wednesday aiming to get back on track. Kirian Rodriguez’s late goal gave Los Amarillos their first win of the season in their most recent match, a 1-0 triumph over Granada.

At the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, Real Madrid lost 3-1 to Atletico Madrid despite having 64% of the possession and 20 shots. Former Los Blancos striker Alvaro Morata scored twice to add salt to injury.

Despite starting the season on a six-game winning streak, Carlo Ancelotti’s team were dragged back down to earth by their cross-city rivals. The streak included five straight La Liga victories and a Champions League opener victory over Union Berlin.

During the six-game winning streak, new player Jude Bellingham scored six goals, leading his team to triumphs over Athletic Bilbao, Almeria, Celta Vigo, Getafe, and Real Sociedad, as well as the game-winning goal on his Champions League debut for Real Madrid.

Even though Bellingham was unable to spark another comeback against Atletico, the 20-year-old midfielder has quickly established himself as one of La Liga’s brightest players and has done well in Vinicius Junior’s (who has been out for the past four games due to injury) absence.

Finally winning a game this season after five tries, Las Palmas beat Granada 1-0 in dramatic fashion on Sunday thanks to a spectacular long-range goal from Kirian Rodriguez in the 92nd minute.

Los Amarillos dominated huge portions of the second half while holding Granada to just one shot on goal, demonstrating their determination to earn all three points despite playing for more than 30 minutes with 10 men after Mika Marmol’s red card.

Although they did lose 1-0 to Valencia, Girona, and Sevilla before Sunday’s win, Las Palmas have not been a disgrace since being promoted from the second division last season.

Las Palmas may have the league’s worst offense, but no team in La Liga has allowed less goals than Garcia Pimienta’s side in 2023-24, so the Canary Islanders should feel confident about their prospects of getting something out of Sunday’s matchup at the Bernabeu.
