Game Preview
One victory would send the Houston Astros to their 7th straight American League Championship Series. In their best-of-five Divisional Series, Houston leads the Minnesota Twins 2-1 and will attempt to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon. The Twins will attempt to clinch the decisive fifth game while playing at home.
After winning Game 1, Pablo Lopez shut down the Astros in Game 2. In Game 3, Christian Javier was the star. As his side increased their advantage, he pitched 5 innings, recording 9 strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Kyle Tucker’s RBI single in the opening frame set it off, and Jose Abreu followed it up with a homer that made it 4-0 right away. After Alex Bregman hit a home run to give the Astros a bigger lead in the 5th, he contributed an additional RBI in the 6th. In the 6th inning of the game, the Twins managed to get one back, but it wasn’t sufficient.
The Houston Astros’ Jose Urquidy is going to receive the ball in this game. He last played on September 29th, thus he is now on nearly two weeks of recovery. During his most recent performances, he was successful. In his final 9 innings of work, he allowed no runs to be scored. Furthermore, throughout that little span, he only gave up 2 hits and 4 walks. Overall, he had a season record of 3-3 and a 5.29 ERA. He doesn’t necessarily start off as a pitcher usually.
On Joe Ryan’s arm, the Twins pin their hopes. During this campaign, he posted an ERA of 4.51 and went 11-10. Ryan has not played since September 29th, similar to Urquidy. However, Ryan’s most recent excursions were not as smooth as Urquidy’s. He tossed 16 innings in his past 3 appearances, giving up 13 earned runs. Fans of the Twins will have to cross their fingers and trust that the rest he got will contribute to him being much more productive in the game that lies ahead.
