After Wednesday’s 8-0 loss to the lowly Oakland Athletics, the St. Louis Cardinals’ record dropped to 54-67 on the season. The setback was the Cards’ second in seven games and prevented them from sweeping the three-game set in front of their home fans. Even with nine hits and two walks, St. Louis was held scoreless. After Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Mets, they are at 54-68 on the season.
In their previous 171 at-bats, the Cardinals have a.298/.409/.520 batting line with 13 extra-base hits and eight home homers. Three of Tommy Edman’s last 18 at-bats have resulted in home runs, Paul Goldschmidt is 7-for-18 with two doubles and a home run in his last five games, and Nolan Arenado is 8-for-23 with a double and a home run in his last five games.
