Nothing can ever be too good for it not to end, apparently at least that’s what happened with the Miami Marlins over the weekend after they saw their continuous winning streak end at seven after dropping last night’s interleague series finisher against Seattle at home.
But now, it’s time to move on and play host to the Arizona Diamondbacks for an early week three-game series starting today. In order to get back to their most recent winning ways, Miami will be sending their star ace RHP Pablo Lopez, pursuing his fourth win of the season while Arizona will be trusting their starting pitching duties to RHP Zac Gallen who would love nothing more than to score his first win of the season against Miami in Florida today.
Game Preview
If we were to only consider how the action unfolded in MLB last week, almost everyone could argue that the Miami Marlins were one of the hottest teams in all of baseball. They managed to go undefeated from Saturday to Saturday, taking two out of three games in their road series against Atlanta, sweeping the Nationals on the road and scoring their first two wins of their three-game interleague series against Seattle at home in Florida. Sadly, the streak ended last night in their last matchup against the Mariners, but if there is something that Miami has proven to everyone this season is that it can play some very good ball when they get hot.
With three games separating them from the New York Mets for the lead in the NL East it would be dumb to sleep on a Marlins team who could just as easily turn on the heaters again today against Arizona.
Miami’s pitching has been quite the unit in which the team has leaned on to get their form, but their hitting is continuously getting better and better, with their slugging and on base percentages putting them in the higher up positions of this season’s league rankings so far which again goes to prove that sleeping on Miami is not a good thing to do right now.
Arizona on the other hand has been trying to find it within themselves to leave the bottom of an always heated NL West category and it seemed like they were on the right track, having won three of their last four games, until yesterday when they fell to the Cardinals in St. Louis cutting their two-game win streak short and handing them their 13th loss of the season.
With their offense not really showing any signs of improvement as the season progresses and their pitching staff trying to keep the ship up and running, for starter Zac Gallen going out and beating Miami today will be as gargantuan of a task as ever, so remember, don’t sleep on Miami.
