Here’s the tale of two AL East teams that hold the same numbers in their season records, only with one of them having a positive record and the other one a negative. The New York Yankees (10-6), with ace RHP Luis Severino taking the mound today as their starter, will be looking to continue riding high on their most recent three-game win streak, after sweeping the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend, as they welcome their divisional rivals and last place dwellers Baltimore Orioles (6-10) with RHP Jordan Lyles on the mound, for the first of a three-game series starting today in the Bronx.

As previously mentioned, the Yankees are coming into this divisional series after taking down the always tough Cleveland Guardians over the weekend, showing once again why when the Yankees get hot, there’s no real way of stopping them. What’s most important out of all this, and especially moving on, is the fact that New York’s star pitcher Gerrit Cole was able to bounce back from his career-low horrific start last outing, to lead the Yankees to a demolishing 10-2 win over the Indians on Sunday. On offense, there’s no other way around all this, the Yankees are stacked to the brim, but that same offense is still looking like they’re slowly getting up and at it. Defensively, they play solid baseball but the key to their early season success is their pitching rotation and bullpen help.
As pitcher Luis Severino continues to come back from past injuries that held him back last season, a win against an Orioles team that is not looking like they are living their finest days might be a perfect way to continue on his rise back to his former level of great pitching.
Speaking of Baltimore, one bright spot in this team tonight in their matchup against the
Yankees might just be their starting pitcher, Jordan Lyles. Lyles, who has a 1-1 record for the season, has only given up one run in the last 10 1/3 innings. While the Orioles might not be playing their tip-top baseball thus far in the season, they have managed to put on some valiant showings and if Lyles can continue on his positive streak of avoiding runs being scored on him, the Orioles might have just enough to put up a good fight against the Yankees and maybe even surprise everyone with a win out of left field.
