By this time in the season it was more than expected that the Baltimore Orioles would be dead last in the AL East, but yet here we are and thanks to the two-game win streak that they are riding on, the Orioles are not last, that place is owned by the Boston Red Sox. Today, as they come down upon St. Louis to take on the always strong Cardinals, who are 2nd in the NL Central and trying to keep up with the Milwaukee Brewers, their main focus is to try and score a very valuable road win to not only start their series on a high-note but also continue on their path of avoiding the last place in their division.

The Cardinals could easily be the top team in the NL Central this season, of course if the Milwaukee Brewers weren’t playing so well, yet still, this team has all the necessary tools to be a top contender in the National League, especially as time continues to go by and the team keeps on becoming stronger and stronger as one complete unit. On offense, their batting powers, led by Norlan Arenado, who is playing some of his best baseball this season, alongside Paul Goldschmidt and Tommy Edman have all shown by far and near that this team has enough fire power on the plate to take down any opposing defense. But it’s their pitching staff that once again, just like every other season for St. Louis, is taking over and leading this team into battle day in and day out.
This team can pitch very well from the get-go, it can build up very well down the line and it can close just as well too, leaving opposing teams with little or nothing to do when the Cards pitching core is having a good day. This can all end up entailing a very sound and strong reason as to why the Cardinals could end up taking down the Orioles today.
The Orioles are here, they are playing their own kind of baseball and thus far, it’s worked. Yes, they’re not close to being the best team anywhere in the league, but they have a very exciting core of young players like Austin Hays and Ryan Mountcastle on offense that cannot be ignored. This Orioles team is starting to build itself up pretty well, and while it might not do much damage right now, it does put up valiant fights. While beating the Cardinals seems like a stretch, it’s not farfetched to see them putting on a good fight at least.
