Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays: Picks & Preview 4/28/2022

April 28, 2022

The Toronto Blue Jays saw their leadership position in the AL East get taken away from them by the New York Yankees after suffering a devastating loss last night by 7-1 in the hands of the Boston Red Sox, the team they’ll be facing again today in the last of their four-game series up north in Canada. After securing the first two wins in the series, the Blue Jays with star ace RHP Alek Manoah at the mound will be looking to score the third and definitive win in the series against their divisional rivals Boston, who will be sending RHP Garrett Whitlock to try and score a win for the Sox to even out the series and leave Canada on a high note.

Game Preview

The Toronto Blue Jays had been holding a very strong grip over the top position in the AL East ever since the beginning of the season, until yesterday when they suffered a home loss against a Boston Red Sox team that while not where they want to be, can still come around to being a very uncomfortable opponent here and there. Last night’s 7-1 defeat came as a strong stop on the road for a Blue Jays team that was looking more and more into the chance of sweeping the Red Sox and putting the division and the whole American League on notice.

But for today, the Jays will surely be gunning to turn the ship around and once again hand Boston another loss in the series, which is why, alongside their offense commanded by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and George Springer Jr. Toronto will be sending one of their star aces Alek Manoah who will be looking to score his fourth win of the season. Given that Toronto has shown they can play some very good ball at home, not including last night’s game of course, a win here against the Sox could fit in perfectly as the Jays now will try to take the division lead back from New York.

For Boston, winning yesterday probably felt like a very good accomplishment, especially with how the team has navigated the season thus far. With a record of 8-11 and holding the 4th place of the AL East division, it’s more than clear that this team is nowhere close to where they wish to be, yet, as shown last night, the fight within the team is there to score important wins and continue moving forward. As starter Garrett Whitlock will be looking to score his second win of the season, replicating the way the team played last game could be the perfect key to achieving a repeat result and a series split before heading to Baltimore to face the Orioles next.
