Chicago White Sox vs Cleveland Guardians: Preview & Odds 4/21/2022

April 21, 2022

The Guardians looked like a team on a demolishing mission yesterday as they routed their divisional rivals White Sox not once, but twice in the same day after taking both wins in the first two games, a double header, of their 3-game series, which is slated to finish tonight. Both the Guardians and White Sox are slated to be the two teams fighting for the AL Central divisional title this season, which is why a series sweep for Cleveland would surely feel heaven sent. For tonight Cleveland will be relying on RHP Zack Plesac to help secure the series sweep, while the White Sox will have RHP ace Dylan Cease on mound to avoid having the Guardians take the lead of the division, all while trying to score his third win of the season.

Game Preview

If you remember last season, you probably recall the White Sox being one of the hottest teams in not only the AL but all of MLB, which is why seeing them go down the way they did yesterday seems like an odd spectacle of sorts. They have a plethora of weapons both on offense as well as in their pitching department to be considered one of the top contenders in the AL when it comes to title aspirations.

While yesterday’s doubleheader slip up was something surprising, this team is still good enough to bounce back at any moment and turn the heat back on. Of course, having Dylan Cease start in the last game of the series will definitely be a plus for Chicago as they cannot afford to lose the last game of the series, especially since they’re sharing the lead of the AL Central division with Cleveland right now.

For Cleveland, they can honestly say that everything worked out in their favor yesterday. In the first game the offense shined immensely as the Guardians took the White Sox to baseball school with a commanding 11-1 win. Afterwards in the night game, the team came through once again with a sober 2-1 win, making those two victories, the first home wins for the team since changing their name before the season.

For manager Terry Francona, everything seemed to work exactly how he wanted and a lot more of that is expected, especially from players like José Ramírez, who is showing everyone why Cleveland made the right move by paying him $141 million for a seven-year contract just last week.

He already has two grand slams in the season, including one from yesterday and he leads the league in RBI’s with 20. Talk about a great example of return on investment for the Guardians. At the end of the day, while Cleveland’s offense can shine in many ways, it will be up to starter Zack Plesac to play perfect fiddle to that offense tonight if they wish to score a series sweep.
