The Los Angeles Angels, led by perennial MVP candidate Mike Trout and baseball sensation Shohei Ohtani will be looking to continue on with their four-game win streak against the reeling Cleveland Guardians who are hoping that a miraculous turn-around win here can help them from making it seven games in a row that they’ve lost so far. Today, as LA will send LHP Reid Detmers, who will be looking to get his first W in the season against Cleveland, the Guardians will be relying on what RHP Cal Quantrill can do, hoping that he can score his second win of the season in his 2nd ever start against the Angels.

When you have a team that has both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in the batting lineup you must be doing something right. This is exactly the case for the LA Angels who this year have apparently finally understood the idea that having a player of the caliber as Trout and a generational talent such as Ohtani can only mean one thing, enough toying around. The Angels have taken this season as a true “gold or bust” season, with their offense making a clear bid for being considered the best unit in all of professional baseball. This all means immediate trouble not just for the Guardians today but for any opposing defenses, because if the Angels get hot and stay hot, it seems like it will be close to impossible to stop this offense.
On the pitching side of the game the Angels have also been putting up some very decent numbers, with their combined ERA being the only kind of dark spot in a rather good to great season. But in all fairness, with an offense as good as this one, that can also play some very good defense, starter Reid Detmers shouldn’t have much of an issue pitching a few quality innings against the Guardians and scoring yet another win for LA.
Cleveland right now looks like a team that is headed for a head-first crash against a wall without any real ideas of how to stop being tossed around. After losing six straight, this team seriously needs a makeover as soon as possible, especially taking into account that on all sides of the ball the Guardians have a very good roster. Their offense, led by 3B Jose Ramirez is a very good unit, and their pitching department is not half bad either. This is just a case of pure and simple bad luck piling up again and again. While a win against the Angels could surely do wonders to start turning everything around, the Angels’ offense might be too much for pitcher Cam Quantrill and Cleveland’s defense.
