Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees: Analysis & Predictions 4/20/2022

April 20, 2022

When baseball fans think of a pitcher like Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, it’s hard to picture the star pitcher having a 1 2/3 inning outing, right? Well, that’s exactly what happened yesterday as New York won their 6th game of the season against Detroit in the first game of their series. Today, for the second game of the series in Detroit, Yankees manager Aaron Boone will be handing the pitching reins to another Yankee ace who is looking to make the 2022 season a perfect comeback season, Luis Severino. Severino who is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA will be facing left hander Eduardo Rodriguez who will be looking for his first win of the season after having a 0-1 record with a 5.87 era thus far

Game Preview

It was an interesting outing for the New York Yankees last night in Detroit to say the least. With their star pitcher Gerrit Cole being checked out before even finishing two innings of action and their bullpen rising to the occasion in an enormous way, the Yankees looked like a team who understood the guidelines of winning at any cost. But if there is one thing that the “Bronx Bombers” know they can rely on when necessary if the offensive power within their starting lineup. When you have players like Aaron Judge, Josh Donaldson, Joey Gallo and Giancarlo Stanton all in the batting lineup amongst others, something good is bound to happen, that is of course, as long as the bats are hot.

That is exactly what New York is hoping for as they try to take the definite series lead against the Tigers this afternoon. When push comes to shove everything boils down to Yankees manager Aaron Boone finding a perfect mix between having Luis Severino pitch one of his typical great outings like he has shown he can do and having the Yankees strongest bats wake up and go to town against Detroit.

For the home team on the other side, the Tigers should really look into their defensive mishaps going forward, and by that we mean the horrible, 1st inning, bases loaded, missed infield pop up that allowed New York to score two of the easiest runs in baseball. The team has substance and if they play inspired by the chance to help bonafide Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera reach the 3,000-hit milestone, something that seems like it can happen any game now, then some good might come from Detroit, but they need to get their act in general if they wish to inflict some true damage against a Yankee team that’s an overmatch for them.
