If you were to look at a team that might be reeling right now but that is looking like one of the better squads in a couple of years, then you should really catch the Baltimore Orioles this season. Yes, they are last in the AL East, but from all wrongdoings usually comes some hope and optimism to look forward to and this young, up and coming Baltimore team is showing just that right now.
This is why they’ll try to extend their most recent two-game win streak today when they take on the always strong and convincing Minnesota Twins in the first of their four-game series. For Baltimore, the starting pitching duties will fall on the hands of RHP Tyler Welles, while for Minnesota it will be former Padres starter Chris Paddack who will be gunning for a Twins win.
The Minnesota Twins are one of those baseball teams that don’t necessarily bring a boatload of excitement with their style of play but still manage to consistently be one of the better squads every season. If you look at their record of 13-9, they’re sitting pretty comfortably at the top of the AL Central division, with the Cleveland Guardians sitting three games behind them.
But also, if you look at their stats, you’ll find a team that is consistent and all-around good in all facets of the game. What’s more so though is how good their defense has played this season, making scoring on the Twins a very hard feat to accomplish from wherever opposing offenses try.
The Twins have what it takes to become an even better team as the season progresses, that is for sure, but for now, scoring a win against Baltimore in Maryland can always come in very handy to continue extending the lead in their division, which is why a strong outing from Chris Paddack could end up working wonders for the Twins.
The Orioles are not a good team this season, but don’t get us wrong, there are way worse teams in MLB right now, yes Cincinnati, we’re talking about you. The difference that makes the Orioles a bad team with a clear upside is how their unit of young, up and coming talents is starting to truly congeal and become a rather respectable squad.
After winning their weekend series against the Red Sox by two games to one, this Orioles team is starting to show a new light, one that while might not do much for this season will surely become one to follow and keep an eye on for the upcoming years. As of now, a win at home to start the week off strong would be great, meaning that starter Tyler Welles will have to bring his A game here against Minnesota.
