New York Mets vs San Francisco Giants: Preview & Predictions 5/23/2022

Game Preview

The San Francisco Giants will receive the New York Mets at Oracle Park to open up their three-game series. These two teams aren’t that far apart in the standings, which is quite surprising considering that the San Francisco Giants haven’t been performing well recently. They were swept by the San Diego Padres and although they got very close to winning a couple of those games, the Giants finished the series with a disappointing 9-20 overall score.

Alex Cobb, who holds a 5.61 ERA over six outings, will be the starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants. Cobb hasn’t been performing in his first year with the San Francisco Giants, though his most recent game against the Colorado Rockies was the worst one, where he gave up 7 runs over 5.1 innings. On the bright side, the San Francisco Giants average the 2nd highest amount of runs per game, mostly thanks to Mike Yastrzemski, who has a six-game hitting streak with a .300 batting average and .390 on-base percentage.

David Peterson will try to shut down the Giants offense as he will be the starting pitcher for the New York Mets. Peterson carries a 1.89 ERA in four appearances and three starts over 19 innings of work, which is quite impressive considering that this is only his 3rd year playing in the big leagues, and he might be able to take advantage of the Giant’s low morale, as they are currently on a 4-game losing streak.

The New York Mets are leading the season series with a 3-1 score and a +4-run differential, which makes them the favorite team coming into this match. On the other hand, the San Francisco Giants are going through a rough patch, and having to face the New York Mets isn’t necessarily good news, but they might be able to bounce back off their losing streak if Peterson isn’t able to contain the Giants offense.
