The Braves scored 11 runs and hit four home runs on the day. Michael Harris had the most hits (three) and runs scored (one) for the team. Home runs were hit by Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Matt Olson, and Marcell Ozuna.
Six different players contributed to the scoring, and all home runs were single shots. The game’s first pitcher was a guy named Mike Soroka. He only lasted 3 innings but was responsible for the defeat by striking out 6. He gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits. Also throwing for three innings was Colin McHugh, who gave up four runs on six hits.
While Spencer Strider’s numbers aren’t spectacular this year, he’s still a top player. Strider has an unusual 3.53 ERA, but he has 245 strikeouts in 159 1/3 innings and his opponents are hitting just.203 against him. The Cardinals’ offense has been sputtering of late, and Strider can neutralize even the most potent offenses.
Strider has a better strikeout-to-walk ratio and a .200 or lower opponent batting average against at home this season. Strider typically pitches well while starting at home, and that shouldn’t change tonight. The Braves will win if he keeps up his strong pitching at home and keeps the runners off the bases.
