The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles will face off Monday July 17. Both clubs hope to capture three-game series victories; Los Angeles have just completed an impressive weekend series win against the Mets while Baltimore just sweeped up a three-game set with the Marlins.
The Baltimore Orioles enter this game riding an eight-game winning streak, having completed their most recent series by winning all three games before taking out Sunday’s finale to seal it with another win and complete their sweep. They have one of baseball’s hottest offenses currently and their starting pitchers have also provided solid pitching support.
Grayson Rodriguez will take the mound for Baltimore against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday and is currently 2-2 with a 7.35 ERA from his first ten starts this season. After being demoted in late May, the rookie pitcher spent a couple of weeks at Triple-A Norfolk until being brought up on Sunday. The Baltimore Orioles hope he can improve in his next start; but facing such a big game may prove challenging for any pitcher.
On the other side of things, the Dodgers will start rookie Emmet Sheehan. Most of his outings have been solid; however, his most recent one was an expensive loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates (allowing five runs in only 3.2 innings pitched). While Sheehan has been solid for his club thus far, stopping the Orioles offense will certainly present challenges.
The Orioles have proven themselves an outstanding home team, but will struggle against the Los Angeles Dodgers offense. To compete against them effectively, the Orioles must step up their game; hitting better and not turning their errors into outs for LA; as well as improve on defense as they have allowed too many homers so far this season.
