The Washington Nationals and New York Mets will square off in a game featuring the bottom two clubs in the NL East. The Nationals enter the contest having defeated the Rockies twice in a row. In their last six games, they have now won five of them while amassing a large number of runs. The Mets, on the other side, just suffered a defeat at the hands of the Yankees.
The Nationals enter the contest on a very impressive roll. They’ve won six of their previous ten games and five of their last six. Recently, the offensive has scored more frequently, but overall, they have had trouble doing so. driving Jeimer Candelario in a lot of runs lately. Candelario has six home runs and 14 RBIs in just one month.
Today’s Nats pitcher, Josiah Gray, has a record of 7-8 with a 3.45 ERA for the year. His previous outing lasted seven innings, and he only allowed one run. For Gray, this month has not been that successful. He has tossed 17 innings this month and allowed ten runs, eight of which were earned. Additionally, he has allowed three home runs this month.
The Mets’ offensive is the root of their failure this season. They are 21st in batting average, 19th in on-base percentage, and 20th in slugging percentage while ranking 19th in the majors in runs scored. They have experienced some of those offensive issues while losing three of the last four games. They only managed to score one run in two of the games.
Kodai Senga will take the mound today. Senga has a 3.27 ERA and a 7-5 record for the year. In his three starts this month, Senga has performed admirably. In 17.1 innings pitched this month, he has allowed five runs, just four of which were earned. He now has an ERA of 2.08 for the month.
