Game Preview

The Minnesota Twins will be looking to win their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, August 8th at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The series is currently tied 1-1, as the Twins won Game 1 on Tuesday and the Cardinals prevailed in Game 2.

On Wednesday evening, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the American League Central-leading Minnesota Twins 7-3 thanks to Dakota Hudson’s 7 solid innings during his second start of the year and Alex Burleson’s 3-run home run.

The Twins did well compared to everyone else in the AL Central by remaining set at the trade deadline. Although this squad is currently in the lead of the AL Central, it is obvious that the management does not consider them to be World Series contenders. The Twins score 4.38 runs on average per game, while their pitchers allow 4.06 runs per contest.

The Twins will start with Sonny Gray as they trust one of the team’s most seasoned pitchers to finish the week well. He enters this contest with a 4-4 record with a 3.22 ERA, with the latter representing the crucial figure. On the previous occasion he played, he gave up 3 runs, and in all of the past 4 matches, he has given up numerous runs, notably one game in which he gave up 5 runs and one in which he gave up 6.

At the trade deadline, the Cardinals sold off several players, including starter pitcher Jack Flaherty. This set’s opening game was lost because the offense had a lot of trouble scoring. While their bullpen allows 4.94 runs per match, the Cardinals score 4.67 runs on average every game.

For this game, the Cardinals will be putting the ball in Matthew Liberatore’s hands. With just a single victory to his credit this year, he has been struggling and is going to be hopeful that a home start will correct things up. It’s not good news for the Cardinals that the bullpen could potentially be largely utilized in this game given his 1-3 record and 6.75 ERA.
