Game Preview

The Seattle Mariners have far exceeded expectations this season despite having an inconsistent record. Their pitching has been outstanding and they have scored many runs. Now, they face the Washington Nationals who are currently experiencing difficulty. This match-up will be the last game of a three-game interleague series between the teams. This game will take place on Wednesday June 28th at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

The Washington Nationals defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-4 on Tuesday evening after Jordan Weems managed to escape a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the bottom of the Seattle lineup during the tenth inning. In the eleventh, Lane Thomas delivered a two-run double. The series is currently tied as the Mariners drew first blood in game 1 of the series winning 8-4.

The Nationals are now playing 9 challenging road games. Even though they are just 4 games below .500 away from home, they really have a superior record there. The team defeated the Padres away from home over the weekend, winning 2 of the 3 games. They achieved their first series triumph of the month with it. In the previous 10 contests, the Nationals are 3-7.

In this game, Patrick Corbin will be starting. Corbin’s most recent performance was brutal; he gave up 7 runs to the Padres and was given the defeat. The veteran pitcher, who has a 5.32 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP to go along with a 4-9 record in 89.2 innings worked on this campaign, was solid in his initial 2 appearances this month but hasn’t been performing well since.

If Seattle wants to compete in the playoffs, they have a lot of building to do. They dropped consecutive series after losing a series in Baltimore the previous weekend in spite of scoring 19 runs, and they fall 4 matches shy of a wildcard position. In their previous 10 games, the Mariners have a 5-5 record. The bullpen has been excellent, but the team’s offense has struggled most of the year.

Logan Gilbert will be the starting pitcher for the Mariners. In his prior start, Gilbert dominated, allowing only one run over 7 innings to defeat the Orioles lineup by a score of 13-1. The Mariners’ ace has allowed 4 homers in his previous 3 starts. Gilbert has pitched 86.1 innings during the current campaign, compiling a 4.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 5-4 record.
