Game Preview

Against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Braves went 3-for-4 with victories. They’re hoping to keep their winning road trip going against a division foe that’s also fighting for a postseason berth. After 10 games, the Braves have a 6-4 record. They have a 96-50 record, the greatest in the majors.

Three of four games were lost by the Marlins against the Milwaukee Brewers. They face the best squad in baseball and need to win to get back on track. After 10 games, the Marlins have a 5-5 record. Their current record of 75-72 is 21.5 games behind the Braves for first place in the NL East. They are currently 1.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants for the National League’s second wild card slot.

Atlanta has officially secured the NL East title. With only 26 games remaining, they must win all of them if they want to win the playoffs. The Braves have only the Los Angeles Dodgers to worry about.

The Marlins are competing in the National League Wildcard battle alongside the San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Chicago Cubs. This means that there will be fighting at the very end.

Bryce Elder, who has a 12-4 record and a 3.38 ERA, will start for the Braves today. Recently, he shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates for seven innings, surrendering just two runs on four hits and nine strikeouts.

This is Elder’s third time facing the Marlins this year. To begin with, on April 26 he had a bad outing, surrendering four earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks across 5 1/3 innings of work. The following week, Elder returned to form by allowing only three hits while striking out six in seven innings of a no-hitter against the Marlins.

The Marlins will be starting Johnny Cueto, who has a 6.15 ERA in 5 starts. After a tough outing against the Phillies in which he allowed five earned runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out three, he aims to get back on track. Since his August 3 comeback, Cueto has not yet pitched a complete game.
