Game Preview

When it comes to the National League postseason picture, the Braves currently have the top seed. That’s a huge advantage going into the NLDS and NLCS. The Braves have a four-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in this category. After sweeping the Colorado Rockies in three games, the Braves have won seven of their previous ten contests.

Their power numbers have been ridiculous all season and they have been playing tremendous baseball. The Braves hit their 250th home run of the season last week. That’s only 57 home runs short of the MLB record and 29 short of the National League record. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Braves shattered the NL record for most runs scored.

Spencer Strider is undeniably one of the most electrifying pitchers in Major League Baseball. The months of June and July, however, were relatively terrible for him. The month of August has been quite good to him. Strider has made five starts this month, totaling 30 1/3 innings pitched. Strider has a 2.37 ERA, 37 K:11 BB ratio, and 17 H:0 IP in those outings.

As was previously established, the Dodgers are in hot pursuit of the Braves in the race for the National League’s top spot. But the Dodgers have already swept this season’s series against the Braves, winning two of three. That series was in May, and since then, a lot has changed for both teams.

This game has the potential to turn into a slugfest, as the Dodgers rank second in the MLB in home runs. In fact, both clubs feature among the MLB’s top five offensive units. If Los Angeles were to win three of the four games in this series, or perhaps the sweep, they would gain significant headway on the Braves.

Lance Lynn’s performance for the Dodgers has been outstanding. Seems like what you need is a change of environment. When Lynn was in Chicago, he essentially served as live pitching; in Los Angeles, that is not the case. Lynn is 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA in five starts for the Dodgers, with 31 innings pitched, 26 strikeouts, 6 walks, and 27 hits allowed.
