The Mariners are riding high after sweeping the Astros in three games. Now winners of six in a row, and seven of their last ten, they have a strong run going. The Mariners have had a fantastic couple of weeks. They’re now 69-55 on the year after winning 19 of their past 24 games.
They dropped to third in the division, three games behind the Rangers and only a half-game behind the Astros. Meanwhile, at the moment they are the third American League Wild Card squad.
Julio Rodriguez is red hot as he enters this match. Recently, over the course of four games, he went 17 for 22 with the bat. This month, he has a .412 average and a .444 OBP. Rodriguez, meanwhile, has driven in 22 runs on the strength of four home runs and nine doubles this month. He has 13 runs scored and 9 stolen bases in the last month.
Today, the Mariners will send Luis Castillo to the mound. He has a 9-7 record and a 3.23 earned run average so far this season. After a stellar July in which he went 2-1 with a 2.92 ERA, he has struggled this August. His 12 earned runs allowed across 19 innings include four homers. This month’s earned run average is thus 5.68.
Meanwhile, the White Sox have pitching issues that must be addressed. They allowed a total of 30 runs during the three-game series against the Rockies. The White Sox are currently ranked 17th in opponent batting average, 22nd in team ERA, and 25th in WHIP in the majors this season.
The White Sox will be sending out Touki Toussaint today. He has a 4.47 ERA and a record of 1-5 on the season. His performance in his last three starts has been subpar.
Over the weekend, the White Sox dropped two of three to the Rockies, and they’ve dropped seven of their previous 10 games overall. The White Sox have had a terrible season. They are 15.5 games behind the Twins for first place in the division with a record of 49-75.
