Johan Oviedo will be the starting pitcher for the Pirates in this series opener. He had an impressive last start, giving up only one run on one hit in seven innings. However, despite his strong performance, his team couldn’t provide enough support, leading to a 3-1 home loss against the San Francisco Giants. The Pirates have struggled in Oviedo’s recent starts, losing all seven of his last outings. In two of his last three road starts, he allowed at least four runs.
All in all, the Angels are in fantastic form, having swept the Yankees in their home series, while the Pirates managed to break their losing streak. The Angels hold a slightly positive record above .500, whereas the Pirates are 12 games below .500. Ohtani has faced challenges in his last two starts, conceding nine runs in a total of 10 innings.
