On Monday, the American League West-leading Texas Rangers travel to Oakland Coliseum to take on the Athletics in the first of three games. The Texas Rangers are looking really good and now they have won five in a row after beating the Miami Marlins 9-8 on Saturday to take a two-game lead in the American League West over the Astros.
The Texas Rangers boast the best hitting lineup in MLB. They rank second in slugging percentage (.463) but first in hits (273), runs (642), and hits per plate appearance (343). Adolis Garcia has hit the most home runs (28) and driven in the most runs (88) for the team, while Josh Young has hit 22 and Marcus Semiem has driven in 70.
However, the Athletics have fallen to 30th or last in runs scored (395), batting average (.222), and slugging percentage (.360), despite being tied for second in on base percentage (.301) with three other teams.
After Saturday’s victory, Texas improved to 4-1 in their last 5, while Oakland fell to 1-4. Texas Rangers have dominated Oakland Athletics, winning five of their seven encounters so far this season.
The Oakland Athletics are going with the dreadful Ken Waldichuk in the starting rotation. Waldichuk is currently 2-7 with a 6.52 earned run average. He faced the Dodgers and pitched 3.2 innings, giving 1 hit and 4 runs (4 earned).
In contrast to Oakland’s dismal performance in the key areas of pitching and hitting, Texas leads the majors in three major hitting categories. Dane Dunning, the Rangers’ starting pitcher, is coming off one of his best performances of the season. In Texas’ 11-1 win over the Chicago White Sox last Wednesday, Dunning scattered three hits, allowed one run, and struck out eleven batters while walking only one.
