Game Preview

After beating the Toronto Blue Jays twice back-to-back, the Texas Rangers will travel to Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago to play the Chicago White Sox on Monday, June 20th for the second game of their three-game series. Their 21-14 road record ranks second in the American League; thus making them legitimate contenders in the AL West race. Their potent offense should keep moving against a White Sox squad which only holds a 17-18 home record this season.

Texas defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-2 on Monday evening thanks to a late two-run single by Jonah Heim and a home run by Josh Jung (his 15th of the season).

The Rangers continue to lead the AL West Division and are pulling away from the competition as they travel to Chicago this week. After winning 2 of 3 games to the Blue Jays this weekend, the Rangers, who had gone just 4-6 in their previous 10 matches, appeared to have turned onto the right track.

This game marks an important test for the Rangers as they seek to extend their winning ways on the road. They have played well recently against inconsistent pitching staffs like that of White Sox’s. Rangers batters have amassed an impressive road batting average of .278, with three of their players (Marcus Semien, Adolis Garcia and Nathaniel Lowe) all posting above-.500 slugging percentages.

The Rangers should have success pitching as Nathan Eovaldi has shown some impressive performances over his last two starts, posting an ERA of 2.59 while garnering many ground balls.

The poor performance of the other teams in the AL Central Division serves as the sole consolation for the Chicago White Sox at this point of this campaign. The White Sox remain within range of the Twins in the lead despite going 10 games below .500. Following a 2-4 road trip versus the Dodgers and Mariners, the White Sox are coming back home.

With seasoned pitcher Dylan Cease taking the mound on Tuesday night, the White Sox want to resume their winning ways. In 15 starts Cease has a record of 3-3. With an ERA of 4.31 across 69 innings of play, Cease has only given up 38 hits.
