Game Preview

The Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants will play each other in an interleague game at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California. This is the first time these teams have played against one another since 2019, when the Rays swept the Giants in San Francisco in a very convincing manner.
Overall, the Rays have won eight of their last twelve games and, as of Sunday, were second in the American League East, two games behind the division-leading Baltimore Orioles. As a team, Tampa Bay is hitting.260/.328/.444 over their last two weeks and 419 at-bats, with 18 extra-base hits and 19 home homers.
San Francisco has given Tyler Glasnow the nod to start. The 29-year-old right-hander is 5-3 this year in 12 starts (68.2 innings pitched), with a solid 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 96/22 K/BB ratio. In 38.1 innings of work throughout the month of July, Glasnow allowed only 11 runs (nine earned) on 26 hits and eight walks. Since July 31st, he hasn’t pitched because of back spasms.
Despite having only won one of their last seven games, the Giants are currently the National League’s second wild card as of Sunday. In their last 395 at-bats, the San Francisco Giants have a.208/.288/.306 batting line with only 14 extra-base hits and eight home runs. Wilmer Flores has been their top performer over that stretch, as he is 13 for 40 with three doubles, two home runs, and six RBI.
Wilmer Flores is the only current Giant to have any success against Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow, going 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs. After two weeks of downtime due to back spasms, Glasnow should return to his dominant form and dominate this matchup.
