Game Preview

Today the Atlanta Braves will host the San Francisco Giants for the third encounter of a four-game series. The Braves picked up a 2-1 victory over the Giants on Monday, then the Giants bounced back with a 12-10 win yesterday.

Even if the Braves lost the latest match, we can’t forget that they have been on a roll recently as they won 16 of their last 19 games. In their most recent slugfest against the Giants, Matt Olson homered twice and drove in 5 runs, while Marcell Ozuna and Ronald Acuna Jr also homered with 2 RBI each.

To try and gain the lead in the series, the San Francisco Giants will send out Carlos Rodon as their starting pitcher, who is making his 14th start of the season. He is holding a 6-4 record with a 2.84 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP over 73 innings pitched.

Rodon was last seen stepping on the mound on Friday, when he picked up a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 29-year-old lefty allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8 over 8 scoreless innings, making one of his best performances of the season so far.

On the other side, the Braves are 2nd in the National League East division, 5 games behind 1st-place New York Mets and 3 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. Their offense is one of the strongest in the league, ranking 2nd with 105 home runs and 7th scoring 4.8 runs on average.

Charlie Morton is making his 14th start of the season for the Atlanta Braves. He is on a 4-3 record with a 5.08 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP over 67.1 innings pitched. While his numbers don’t look that great, Atlanta’s pitching department is 9th in the MLB with a 3.73 ERA.

This is going to be a defining match as the San Francisco Giants aren’t necessarily the favorites, but this might be the turning point in the series if we take the pitching matchup in consideration.
