St Louis Cardinals vs San Francisco Giants: Preview & Odds 5/06/2022

May 6, 2022

Man, how the mighty fall sometimes huh? At least that’s the best way to try and start explaining the recent four-game losing streak that the San Francisco Giants, who just a couple of weeks ago were considered as one of the best teams in all of MLB are going through right now. To add to that, their last loss came against the same team they’ll be facing today hoping to get out of their negative slump, the always consistent and strong St. Louis Cardinals.

After losing the first game in their series in St. Louis the Giants will be relying on what RHP Alex Cobb will bring to the mound, especially considering that a fifth loss in a row is nowhere close to what the Giants need right now. Meanwhile for the Cardinals who would love nothing more than to continue picking apart San Francisco, RHP Jordan Hicks will take the mound to extend the Cards’ most recent win streak to three.

Game Preview

Yes, maybe the idea of the Cardinals taking over the lead of the NL Central division, at this moment held by the amazingly good Brewers might still be kind of a stretch, but that doesn’t mean that continuing to nurture and grow their recent winning streak, which already includes one win against their rivals for today, San Francisco, doesn’t sound like a great idea to kick off the weekend. When you watch St. Louis play, it seems as if they were asked to show baseball fans and experts what effective and solid baseball on all lines looks like.

They hit good, they field good and they pitch good, it’s that simple. While there are areas that could get better like their slugging percentage and amount of quality starts from their starting rotation, St. Louis does not seem faced whatsoever by any negative numbers around them and just continue to focus on playing consistently good baseball day in and day out.

Of course, a lot of their success continues to come from bringing in 3B Norlan Arenado, in a move that should be considered one of the best in recent times not only for St. Louis but in the National League as a whole. For now, if starter Jordan Hicks brings the heat today, it doesn’t seem like San Francisco will see the light just yet.

Speaking of the Giants, seriously, what happened to this team? After only winning one of their last five games, including losing the last four, uncertainty reins around San Francisco’s dugout. It’s understood that even the best teams go through slumps, but maybe Giants fans weren’t ready for it all to go down as it has so far. For today, it will be up to starter Alex Cobb and San Francisco’s offense to try and stop a red hot Cardinals team, but from the looks of it, it seems as if 5 straight losses seem more likely than a win today.
