Yesterday, the Boston Red Sox were able to take over the first encounter of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays in a very convincing manner.
Boston picked up a 4-0 win after Trevor Story smacked a nice homer in the bottom of the 4th to get things going and Rafael Devers quickly followed things up with an RBI single in the next inning. The Rays were unable to come back as they couldn’t find a single opportunity to score a run, giving them a frustrating loss in the opener game.
We had high expectations for Tampa Bay as they completely rolled over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday with a 7-3 victory. Today they’ll try to bounce back into the series by sending out one of their hottest pitchers available. In the last five games where Springs has started, the Rays ended up with a win, which should give them enough confidence this game.
On the other side, the Boston Red Sox are sending out Nick Pivetta as their starting pitcher, who is making his 17th start of the season. Pivetta has been one of the best pitchers that the Red Sox have to offer, and this season has been one of his best. He is on a 8-5 record and carries a 3.23 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP over 94.2 innings pitched. Against the Toronto Blue Jays, he didn’t allow more than 2 runs on 5 hits throughout 6 innings of work.
It’s very obvious that Boston is feeding off the energy and good performance of the 29-year-old righty this season. This pitching matchup is turning out to be one of the most exciting ones we’ll see today
