The Los Angeles Angels took the Tampa Bay Rays to baseball school last night as they delivered a strong and very convincing 11-3 win to take the first game of their beginning of the week series against their AL East visitors. Now, as the stage is getting set for the second game of their series, the stakes are higher than ever for both Los Angeles and Tampa. Both teams are trying to continue with their usual winning ways this season, the Angels holding on to their 1st place in the AL West division while the Rays are sitting comfortably in 2nd place of the AL East, all while trying to catch up to the Yankees and keep the Blue Jays away, which means that a win tonight takes on a whole new spectrum of importance.
Whoever still hasn’t fully made up their minds that this season feels more and more like “THE” season in which the Los Angeles Angels finally seem poised for a true and strong postseason run, then they should definitely try to catch an Angels game, because this team is cruising and doing it in great fashion. Currently standing at the 1st place of the AL West division, with one of the most explosive offenses in the league, the Angels are sitting very pretty and do not look in any way, shape or form ready to let go of the hype they’re riding on right now. After winning five of their last six games, including taking the first game of their series against Tampa, the Angels seem like they are unstoppable and that might just be the tonic for today’s gamer once again.
The Angels will be relying on LHP Reid Detmers, who will be looking for his second win of the season to take the lead of the charge from the mound, counting of course on the Angels’ offense to take over and continue showing why they are so good.
The Tampa Bay Rays on the other hand are coming into the second game of the series carrying a two-game losing streak which they are fully aware it’s something they really can’t be dealing with right now, especially if they want to keep pursuing the Yankees at the top of the AL East division. If we take yesterday’s loss as a sign well of course there should be reasons to feel alarmed, but considering how good this offense is on an almost daily basis, Tampa bouncing back today could be a very serious scenario. Of course, having a two-time Cy Young winner like Corey Kluber as your starter for today is exactly what the Rays need in order to get the ball going and avoid losing another game against the Angels, so expect a great outing from the Rays as they try to revert yesterday’s 11-3 squashing today
