Texas Rangers vs Seattle Mariners: Predictions & Preview 7/25/2022

Game Preview

The Seattle Mariners have been dominating the Texas Rangers for quite a while now, winning five straight games against them, and are 8-2 in their last 10 encounters. Today they’ll be trying to keep their dominance going as they kick off a three-game series at T-Mobile Park. The Mariners came out of the All-Star break as the hottest team in baseball after winning 14 in a row, but they dropped the ball over the weekend against the Houston Astros, losing all three of their games.

Both of these American League teams are fighting for a spot in the playoffs, though the Rangers are in a slightly worse position as Seattle currently holds the third wildcard spot in the American League with the Rangers 7 games behind. They took down the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, 11-8, preventing the sweep. Texas has lost 7 out of their last 10 games, but at least they have been a decent team on the road, going 22-25.

Today Glenn Otto is making his 14th start of the season for the Texas Rangers. He is carrying a 4-6 record with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP over 61.2 innings pitched while striking out 47. Otto picked up his 6th loss of the season after giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4 across 6 frames against the Mariners on July 17. July has not been a great month for the 26-year-old, as he has allowed 12 earned runs in 19.1 innings.

The Seattle Mariners will send out Chris Flexen to the mound to try and bounce back from their recent losses. Flexen holds a 6-8 record with a 3.79 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 99.2 innings pitched while striking out 70 throughout 18 starts. Fortunately for the Mariners, even if Flexen doesn’t perform as expected, they have the benefit of a solid bullpen, as the Mariners have the seventh-best bullpen ERA at 3.40.
