76ers Analysis: Just lost their 9-game winning run
On Saturday, the Philadelphia 76ers had a perfect start to their first-game versus the New York Knicks. Star center Joel Embiid was controlling the game as they jumped out to a 9-point lead early in the 2nd quarter and eventually extended it to double digits. Then, a single scene almost altered the show’s overall direction. When Embiid found himself double-teamed in the paint, he made an incredibly athletic move for a 280-pound big man: he threw the ball off the glass, grabbed the rebound, and slammed 2 points. Sadly, Embiid fell to the ground, crumpling on his surgically repaired knee. The Sixers lost the lead and were behind by 12 at the half after Embiid received assistance off the court.
Knicks Analysis: Coming off 7-point win
In game one, the New York Knicks defeated the Sixers 111-104 thanks to a dominant 2nd quarter and a potent bench. The Knicks won thanks to 22 points apiece from Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart as well as 21 points from Deuce McBride, who scored five of seven from beyond the arc. The Knicks were behind by a significant margin at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, but McBride’s entry into the game gave them a major boost. As a result, the Knicks led by 12 points at the half and led 33–12 in the 2nd quarter. In the second quarter, McBride scored 13 points, which was more than the 76ers managed as a unit. In the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter, Hart scored two explosive 3-pointers to keep the Sixers at bay.
