Timberwolves Analysis: They’ve won 5 games in a row
This postseason is Anthony Edwards’ continuing coming out celebration. He has two straight games with 40 points, and his playoff average is 33.4 points per game. With 43 points and 7 rebounds in the first game, he was unstoppable as the underdog team defeated the reigning champions. Edwards finished the game with a coast-to-coast layup. Towns is defensively assigned on Jokic by the T-Wolves, which frees up Gobert to move around as a help defender and close out on Jokic when double-teamed. Even though he only scored six points in the end, Gobert performed his job with three blocks, 13 rebounds, and several crucial defensive stops.
Nuggets Analysis: Nikola Jokic just scored 32 points
The season series between these two teams ended in a 2-2 draw, and the Nuggets now feel as though they must win in order to avoid dropping their opening two games at home. Jokic finished with 32 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds, which was a respectable performance. He did not score as many points as he usually does; his shooting percentages were below his season norms at 44% from the field and 22% from three. Gobert wandered the rim, thus he was always facing double teams. Throughout the playoffs, Michael Porter Jr. has been on fire, making four more three-pointers in Game 1. Porter ended with 20 points and is making 4.0 threes per game while shooting 50% from three in the playoffs.
