On December 1, the Dallas Mavericks (11-6) and Memphis Grizzlies (4-13) square off as rivals in the Southwest Division at American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks overcame the Houston Rockets 121-115 at home in their last game. G Luka Doncic averages 31.1 points per game, which leads the club in scoring. On the other side, the Dallas Mavericks have remained among the league’s top offensive teams. Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic make for a fantastic backcourt combination. But if they want to be a contender for the playoffs, their defense is a reason for concern. They have an intriguing roster design that allows them to score a lot of points from a small number of players while still playing effectively. Thus far, it appears to be effective, and Kyrie Irving appears to be embracing the regimen. Derrick Lively, a rookie big man, is providing them with some inside presence.
The Grizzlies overcame the Utah Jazz 105-91 just recently. G Desmond Bane, who has an average of 23.2 PPG, is leading the team. With six shot blocks, Jaren Jackson Jr. is a strong candidate for Defensive Player of the Year once again. Having one of the worst standings in the NBA and no obvious way back into contention, Memphis has struggled this season due to injuries and suspensions. Bane, who is having the most productive basketball of his career, has emerged as Memphis’ top option since Morant was suspended early in the season. Bane hasn’t played well the past three games, though, scoring just 12 points a night on 33 percent of his field goals and 24% from beyond the arc. They are shooting 76.9% of their free throws from the line and 32.7% from beyond the arc and they are pulling down 42.1 rebounds each game and surrendering just 40.7% of shots from beyond the arc.
