On December 5 at McCarthey Athletic Center, the No. 8 Gonzaga Bulldogs (6-1) will play the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (4-5).
The Golden Lions struggled in their 107-86 defeat versus No. 22 Oklahoma. In the last five matches, Arkansas-Pine Bluff was defeated in four of them, each by a margin of at least eighteen points. With 21.2 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per game, Kylen Milton heads the Golden Lions in scoring. Rashad Williams tops the team in assists thus far this season with 18.3 PPG and a team-high 3.9 APG. The defense, on the other hand, has been a weak aspect, ranking 357th defensively with an average of 85.6 pts allowed per game. Moreover, the rebounding statistics are alarming; at 31.1 rebounds each game on average, they rank 267th. Against Gonzaga, this difference in offensive potency and defensive weakness will be extremely important.
After defeating USC 89-76 the previous time out, the Gonzaga Bulldogs are hoping to extend their winning streak to four games this time around. With 14.7 PPG and 8.3 RPG, Anton Watson is leading the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding, and Graham Ike adds 13.4 PPG and 8 RPG to his game this year. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are making 67.5% of their free throws and 34.5% of their field goals from beyond the arc and they are pulling down 39.3 rebounds per game and conceding 25.3 percent of shots from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs’ defense, which ranks 81st in the nation, allows only 66.3 points per game, which is far less than the Golden Lions’. Particularly noteworthy is the 3-point defense, which limits opponents to only 25.3% shooting from outside the arc. With their efficient offense and strong defense, the Bulldogs pose a serious threat to Arkansas Pine-Bluff.
