Game Preview

On December 5, the Kansas City Roos (3-5) visit Allen Fieldhouse to take on the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks (7-1).

In their most recent game, UMKC defeated Southeast Missouri State to finally get back in the win column. At the half, the Kangaroos led 38-17 and easily won 74-44, scoring 36 additional points in the process. Kansas City had a quick start, leading by 21 points at the intermission after shooting 46.9% from the field in the 1st half. The second half was easily breezed by them. With his 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in the win, Jamar Brown led all scorers. This season, the Roos defeated Avila and University of Saint Mary in back-to-back victories before going on the losing streak. On this team, rebounding is a collective effort. Four players average over 4 rebounds each game, and one guy averages just 3.8. The team gets just 37.1 rebounds a game, therefore between the five of them, they get more than half of the team’s rebounds per contest.

When the Jayhawks faced UConn in their last game, they were able to continue their winning streak. Kansas led the Huskies 38-31 at the half and held off the team in the 2nd half to win 69–65. Kevin McCullar, the team’s top scorer, concluded with 21 points and 5 rebounds, while KJ Adams ended with 18 points and 5 boards. Against the Huskies, Hunter Dickinson produced 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He even made three of four 3-pointers and made several clutch baskets in the closing minutes.  Nevertheless, Kansas has some of the top defensive glass players in the country. On the offensive end of the glass, they are ranked 288th in the country, but when it comes to defense, they are among the top 50. That will be important in this game since Kansas City score a lot of points on second-chance opportunities.
