Analysis & Prediction: Auburn vs Baylor 11/7/2023

Game Preview

Game Preview

The historic NCAAB game involving the Auburn Tigers and the Baylor Bears will take place on Tuesday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Both of these teams are hoping to return to the NCAA tournament this campaign, making this one of the biggest games of the first two nights of NCAA basketball.

The Auburn Tigers finished seventh in the SEC rankings with a 21-13 (10-8) record the previous season. Although Auburn didn’t lose until December 10th of the previous year, they had a difficult finish to the regular campaign. Arkansas defeated the Tigers 76-73 in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. Auburn did make their way to the NCAA Tournament, but they lost to Houston during the Round of 32 after defeating Iowa in the opening round.

Recently, two important members of Coach Pearl’s winning teams, guard Allen Flanigan and guard Wendell Green Jr., left the team. Still, the club welcomes back 6-8 senior forward Jaylin Williams and 6-10, 235-pound forward Johni Broome as its best players. Broome merges well with Williams as they both dominate inside and generate scoring opportunities.

The Baylor Bears had a 23-11 record at the end of the previous campaign. As the number three seed, Baylor was defeated by the Creighton Blue Jays during the second round of competition in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Scott Drew, who is two years removed from winning a national championship in 2022, enters his 21st season at Baylor with a 422-233 record.

The previous season, Baylor allowed 70.3 points against per match while scoring 77 points per contest with 34 rebounds as well as 14.2 assists per game. Despite losing its top 3 shooters from the previous campaign, Jalen Bridges led Baylor with an average of 10.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per match. Baylor made 74.9% of their free throws, 37.2% of their three pointers, and 44.7% of their field goals.
