Texas and Creighton will meet each other in one of the biggest matchups of the NCAAB season so far, when they face off on Thursday. Creighton is coming off its first defeat of the 2022-23 campaign, which came in an 81-79 final against Arizona last Wednesday. On the other hand, Texas has won its first five games of the year, including a victory over Gonzaga two weeks ago.
Creighton kicked off the season in an excellent manner, winning six of its first seven matches. The Bluejays picked up a six-game winning streak to open the year, with the most impressive wins coming against some top-25 teams like Texas Tech and Arkansas in the Maui Invitational. They also had a chance to win the championship game of the tournament last Wednesday, but lost Arizona by just two points.
For the Bluejays, Ryan Nembhard led Creighton with 20 points, while Ryan Kalkbrenner added 16 points of his own. Baylor Scheierman posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Trey Alexander had 15 points. The Bluejays were trailing by 14 points with 12:19 remaining before staging a very late comeback and taking a chance to win outright.
On the other hand, Texas has already recorded one very important victory this season, but it has the opportunity to add another one on Thursday night. The Longhorns have managed their ways to a 5-0 start this season, with their most impressive victory coming in a 93-74 blowout against Gonzaga around two weeks ago.
Since then, they have only played two matches, beating Northern Arizona and UT Rio Grande Valley in two more blowout victories. The win over UT Rio Grande Valley came on Saturday in a 91-54 final, as the Longhorns covered the spread without issue. They have now covered the spread in three of their last four games, missing out by just 1.5 points in their win over Northern Arizona last week.
