Fairleigh Dickinson vs Columbia: Preview & Picks 12/09/2022

Game Preview

Game Preview

The Fairleigh-Dickinson Knights are taking a trip to Manhattan on Friday to face off against the Lions of Columbia. Both FDU and Columbia have struggled so far throughout the season. These two squads haven’t played against each other since 2014 where the Ivy League players of Columbia convincingly won by 10 points. The Lions are 4-2 at home, while the Knights are 1-5 on the road.

The FDU Knights were really close to putting a century mark on Saint Joseph’s with a 97-80 scoreline in their last time out. In that encounter, the senior Guard Demetre Roberts scored 24 points of his own, with 6 assists while shooting a ridiculous 80% from the field (8-10).

The New York native has been leading the Knights in terms of score in 50% of their games this season so far, averaging 16.9 points, 3.1 boards, and 4.4 assists. This is the first year at FDU for head Coach Tobin Anderson and he will be looking to creep closer to a positive record on Friday night.

Now looking at the other side, the Columbia Lions are being led by sophomore Guard Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa who, on average, is scoring 13.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per match. That said, De La Rosa only scored 6 points in their 7-point defeat to UMBC in their last outing.

Unfortunately for them, the Lions’ poor free-throw shooting has caused them to lose games repeatedly. In that 7-point defeat to UMBC, the Lions ended up shooting 42.9% from the free throw line, which was shocking to see. Jim Engles, their head coach, has been at the helm of the program since 2016 and has a disappointing record of 39-99. Engles is aiming to avoid reaching 100 losses as the head of the Lions.
