Game Preview

On November 6th, the Northwestern Wildcats will play their first game of the 2023–24 NCAA basketball campaign at Welsh-Ryan Arena against the Binghamton Bearcats.

Trying to capitalize on confidence from last year, Northwestern hosts Binghamton on Monday to kick off the season. The Wildcats finished their previous campaign with a record of 22–12, their best since 2016. When Northwestern made it into the Big Dance the previous year, it won its initial match but lost the following one. For the initial occasion in school history, Northwestern wants to make it to the Big Dance twice in a row. Boo Buie, who is expected to become Northwestern’s all-time top scorer, is back. With 17.2 points per contest on average the previous season, he leads the Big 10 in returning scorers. 4 individuals were selected unanimously for the Big 10 preseason squad, including Buie. The Wildcats turned to the transfer site for assistance as they needed to replace a total of 4 players off their roster from the previous campaign. 3 former mid-major talents who could contribute right away are being added. Ty Berry from the previous year is back. Ryan Langborg, a transfer from Princeton, might start on Monday.

The previous campaign, Binghamton finished 13–18 overall and 8–8 within the American East Conference. For over a decade, the Bearcats have failed to finish higher than .500. When Binghamton visited Northwestern in 2018, they suffered a crushing defeat. The two guards that averaged almost ten points a game last season are back to start for the Bearcats. The Bearcats added 3 fresh players who may play right away after using the transfer portal. During the Bearcats’ exhibition game this past week, transfers Chris Walker along with Tymu Chenery both scored fourteen points. The previous season, the Bearcats shot 45.0% from the floor and 32.3% from beyond the arc, averaging 68.8 points per contest.
