On Monday, November 6th, the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars take on the Dayton Flyers inside UD Arena. The match is the inaugural one for both squads in the 2023–24 campaign.
The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars, who finished the 2022–23 season with a 19–14 overall record, featuring a 9–9 record in OVC games, will be hoping to make even more progress. SIUE allowed an average of 71.3 points per game on defense. This included letting opponents shoot 3 points at an average of 32.5 percent.
The Dayton Flyers want to improve on their 22-12 record from the previous season, which included a 12-6 record throughout A-10 conference activities, as they enter the 2023–24 campaign. The Flyers defeated Fordham and Saint Joseph’s before falling to VCU within the conference final. The Flyers’ campaign came to a conclusion when they turned down an invitation for the NIT. The Flyers signed transfers including Enoch Cheeks to complement DaRon Holmes II, the team’s returning top scorer, to replace the loss of Toumani Camara and Mustapha Amzil. The Dayton defense gave up an average of 61.0 points per match during the previous season. This included adversaries’ 29.1% three-point shooting percentage. They also gave opponents access for attempting 14.1 free throws in each match.
