To begin their individual College Basketball sprints, the Florida A&M Rattlers will visit the Creighton Bluejays on November 7th at CHI Health Center Omaha.
The Florida A&M Rattlers enter the 2023–24 season looking to improve on their 7–22 record from the previous year, which included a 5–13 record in SWAC conference competition. The Rattlers’ campaign ended when they were unable to advance to the SWAC conference tournament. Jordan Tillmon and Jaylen Bates will need to be replaced by Florida A&M, although they do have Dimingus Stevens returning. FAMU’s issue is the fact that they only have one player returning from last season who scored more than 18 points per game, and the Rattlers appear to have another lengthy campaign ahead of them. The Rattlers had a dismal offensive year, finishing 355th in 2-point shooting and 363rd in turnover rate. The squad came in third place with an average of 58.6 points per contest.
The Creighton Bluejays enter the 2023–24 season looking to improve on their 24–13 record from the previous year, which included a 14-6 record in Big East conference action. The Bluejays lost to Xavier inside the semifinals after defeating Villanova during the Big East quarterfinals. The Bluejays defeated Princeton, NC State, and Baylor as a 6-seed throughout the NCAA tournament before falling to San Diego State within the Elite Eight. In Ryan Kalkbrenner, Baylor Scheierman, and Trey Alexander, the Bluejays will have three players that score in double figures returning. However, they will be without Ryan Nembhard and Arthur Kaluma. In order to provide an additional scoring dimension, the Bluejays also used the transfer portal to add Utah State’s Steven Ashworth. They did enjoy a three-game vacation to the Bahamas this summer, which could greatly aid with Ashworth and other players’ acclimatization to the new squad. This team will benefit from the experience gained throughout the offseason, particularly earlier in the campaign.
