Game Preview

At Rupp Arena on January 31, the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats (15-4) take on the Florida Gators (14-6).

Leading the way for Kentucky is senior guard Antonio Reeves, one of 5 Wildcats players who score at least ten points each contest. Reeves, who spent his first 3 years at Illinois State, is in his 2nd season with the team and has been outstanding. Six of the previous 9 matches have seen him score 20 points or more; on December 21, he put up 30 points in a 95-76 victory over Louisville. In the victory over Arkansas in their last game, he finished with 24 points and 4 rebounds. In 31 minutes of action this year, he is averaging 19.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. Tre Mitchell, a senior in his first year with the team after playing his final season at West Virginia, has participated in 19 games for the Wildcats, starting 19. He just finished with a double-double in the victory over Arkansas, scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

The Florida Gators are hoping to extend their winning streak to 3 games going into this one after defeating Georgia 102-98 in overtime the previous time out. Tyrese Samuel leads the Gators on the glass this season with 13.2 points per game and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game, while Walter Clayton Jr. paces the team in scoring with 15.9 points each game, 2.8 assists per match, and 3.8 RPG. The Gators are led in assists by Zyon Pullin, who averages 14.9 PPG with 3.6 rebounds per game and a team-high 4.8 assists each contest. Riley Kugel and Will Richard round out the double-figure scorers for the club this season with 10.5 and 4 PPG, respectively.
