Prediction and Analysis: Princeton vs Yale 02-02-2024

Game Preview

Game Preview

On this upcoming Friday, we are in for a highly significant match in the Ivy League this season, as the Princeton Tigers’ journey to New Haven to face off against the Yale Bulldogs.

The Tigers were anticipated to be strong contenders in the Ivy League, although many predicted a decline in performance following their impressive run to the Sweet 16 last season. Three key players, including Tosan Evbuomwan, decided to pursue professional opportunities or transfer to another college (as the Ivy League prohibits graduate students from participating).

The duo of sophomores, Xaivian Lee and Caden Pierce, has shown remarkable improvement due to the roster change. Last season, they contributed around 12 points per game together, but this season they have surged to a combined average of over 32 points per game. Lee in particular is averaging 17.7 points per game, a massive improvement from last season. He has embraced his role as the team’s primary scorer and has significantly enhanced his deep shooting, increasing his percentage from 23.2% last season to an impressive 35.6% this season.

Yale started this season with a well equipped roster, fueled by their previous season’s achievements.. As the reigning champions of the Ivy League, the Bulldogs had proven their dominance this year as well. Their usual suspects are rising to the occasion, with Danny Wolf averaging 14.1 points per game, while John Poulakidas and Bez Mbeng average around 13 points per game to compliment their star forward.

This match holds immense significance in the pursuit of the Ivy League title. The conference has effectively been divided into two distinct groups. Cornell alongside Princeton stands almost at the pinnacle, with a high probability of securing a spot in the four team Ivy Madness tournament. While Yale is still a favorite overall to win it all, including this matchup.
