Predictions & Analysis: Maryland vs Indiana 12/01/2023

Game Preview

Game Preview

On December 1 at Assembly Hall, the Maryland Terrapins (4-3) will travel to face the Indiana Hoosiers (5-1) in an attempt to extend their winning streak to three games.

The Terrapins had few problems in their most recent victory over Rider. Maryland surged out to a 54-27 lead at the half and won 103-76 by scoring 49 more points. Julian Reese with 12 rebounds and Jahmir Young led the way in scoring with 22 points apiece. Senior forwards Donta Scott contributes 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds a game in addition to Young and Reese’s combined scoring of over 30 points per game. As a team they still have some struggles as they give the ball away 12.7 times every game and only make 67.9% of their free throw tries. The defense, which is ranked 29th, will have to play much better in this game as they have some troubles taking care of the ball.

Indiana faced a challenging Harvard team in their most recent game, and they found themselves behind 40-39 at the break. But the Hoosiers managed to score 50 points in the following half and won 89-76 in the end. Kel’el Ware led the winning team in scoring with 28, pulling down eight rebounds, and stealing three steals. The sophomore Malik Reneau, who averaged 6.1 points per game the previous season, is another productive player for the Hoosiers. This season, he is averaging 15.3 points and Xavier Johnson, a redshirt senior point guard, is doubtful for this game because he skipped the second half of the Harvard game. Indiana is currently allowing an average of 71.0 PPG, which is close to the NCAA standard for points surrendered. After allowing the Harvard offensive unit to make 57% of their shots and score 76 points, Indiana’s defense is coming off a difficult game.
