Following 10 victories in the previous season, Loyola-Chicago enters the 2023–24 campaign with a sense of revenge. The Ramblers have fallen down swiftly, having only made it to the NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals just three seasons ago and the Final Four a mere six years ago. Nevertheless, it wasn’t shocking considering the attrition Loyola-Chicago experienced, five seniors and graduate transfers left. 7 players that are crucial to the Ramblers’ progress this upcoming campaign are back for the squad. The two main players to keep an eye on are redshirt freshman Trey Lewis and true freshman Miles Rubin, but the two standout players are Ben Schweiger, who had 9.2 points per match on average, and Alston, with an average of 14.6 points per game. With a wingspan of seven feet, Lewis, a 6-foot-5 forward, was the top-ranked recruit in Michigan for the 2022 class.
The American Athletic Conference’s top preseason ranking belongs to Florida Atlantic. The Owls joined the AAC for the first time this campaign after leaving Conference USA. All of Florida Atlantic’s players from their incredible journey to the Final Four the previous season are back. The Owls are expected to perform well this coming season, and they possess the talent to do so. The American Athletic Conference preseason player of the year award went to both Johnell Davis Jr. and Alijah Martin Jr. Martin was selected the Player of the Year for Conference-USA in the previous campaign. He pulled down 5.3 rebounds and scored 13.4 points on average per match. Davis, who averaged 13.8 points per contest the previous season, was voted Conference-USA’s Sixth Player of the Year.
