Game Preview

The Barstool Invitational at Wintrust Arena will feature a collegiate basketball matchup between the Arizona State Sun Devils and Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday.

The Arizona State Sun Devils are lighting up the court once more with a promising team despite significant departures. They are coming off a strong 28-7 run and establishing their dominance in the Pac-12. The explosiveness of Desmond Cambridge Jr., with 13.6 points per contest, and the defensive leader Warren Washington, who had 6.9 rebounds per match, were key components of the team’s victory the previous season. Frankie Collins‘s ability to make plays, he finished with 4.3 assists, was also crucial. However, Head Coach Tommy Lloyd is faced with a strategic makeover as these court general’s depart. The spotlight will be on the Sun Devils as they prepare for the upcoming season, particularly on how well they mix in-experienced players with new potential. They have the resources needed to surpass last year’s standards, with both new players and seasoned returners. But whether they stay in March or go out early will depend on how well they can synchronize and adjust.

Arizona State finished the previous campaign 11-9 within the Pac-12 and 23-13 overall. 7 players, notably DJ Horne and Desmond Cambridge Jr., the team’s top two scorers from the previous campaign, left Arizona State. Frankie Collins, who averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per contest the previous season, is the top scorer back. Collins’ teammates from the previous campaign, Jamiya Neal, who posted 4.9 points per game, and Alonzo Gaffney, who averaged 3.2 points per contest, are joining him. Arizona State brought in 7 transfers and 3 freshmen. Malachi Davis from JC, Brett Selebangue from Tulsa, Adam Miller from LSU, Sean Phillips from LSU, Brycen Longs from Houston Christian, Zane Meeks from South Florida, and Kamari Lands from Louisville are among the transfers.
