When Toledo plays Wyoming at the Arizona Bowl on December 30, it will have a great chance to regain momentum following its loss during the Mid-American Championship Game.
Toledo’s 11-game streak of victories came to an end when they lost to Miami of Ohio during the Mid-American Conference Championship Game. But when standout quarterback Dequan Finn used the NCAA transfer portal in the days that followed, the Rockets lost even more ground. Finn tossed for 2,657 yards, 22 scores, and 9 picks. He has now committed to Baylor. Along with his touchdowns, he rushed for 563 yards and helped the Rockets achieve a 11-2 record. Vinny Sciury, the three-year regular and All-MAC selection at left guard, intends to move as well. After topping the conference for overall offense, Finn was awarded the MAC Offensive Player of the Year. While Toledo still boasts several talented playmakers, the Rockets’ attack is far less effective without Finn. At the 2023 Arizona Bowl, reserve Tucker Gleason, who played in a trio of matches this season, is anticipated to take his position. For 199 yards and 4 touchdowns, Gleason connected on 14 of 21 throws; the most of his performance came during garbage time.
In contrast, Wyoming’s roster to compete in the 2023 Arizona Bowl is in good form. Except for cornerback Kolbey Taylor (who went to Vanderbilt) who missed the last two matches of the NCAA regular season, the Cowboys were successfully able to hold onto the majority of its key players. After the bowl, Craig Bohl, regarded as one of the most successful coaches in school history, intends to retire. With an 8-4 record, Wyoming qualified for its third consecutive collegiate bowl and 4th in 5 years of competition. Along the way, the Cowboys picked up some big victories, defeating teams like Texas Tech and Fresno State, who at that moment was rated No. 24 according to the AP poll and had prevailed in 14 consecutive matches.
